I posted some time ago about some DVDs from a UK supplier that no longer play. The supplier is being less than helpful and simply says I've worn them out. I am extremely careful with all my material and cannot understand how this can be.
What is the expected life of a DVD under normal circumstance? I thought the digital recording media were supposed to be the death of old analoge media like vinyl? Thats a joke then because I'm still playing Lps I bought 40 years ago.

If delamination occurs between the two poycarbonate surfaces air can access the 'silver' bit and cause oxidisation and so the disc becomes unplayable due to effectively rusting.

Usually occurs on cheap discs.

There is a piece of sofware that may be able to rescuse these discs for you providing you have a dvd burner on your pc. I can mail you info if you want?

But I'm still curious about consumer rights in these circumstances. Perhaps one result is that if you don't get satisfactory service you don't give that supplier any more business.

hes taking the piss mart,iwas told in 1992 cds never wear out then dvds likewise in 01.i still play my old vinyls too .

well about 2 hrs ago played a 4 track new order cd covered in dust and fingermarks it played fine.
