If he was , he must have swung both ways, he had to beat the groupies off with a shitty stick, not that it matters, he was a fucking genius

We have Arnold Layne saying 'he was a fucking genius' and mart saying 'It probably claims he was a great musician'.

So was he a genius or seriously over-rated?

I personally think he was somewhere between the two, ground-breaking but not as good as people make out.

Over to you lot...

It was written about a girlfriend, but the testcard influenced the opening lines "after all the jacks are in their boxes, and the clowns have all gone to bed"
He spent a great deal of time in England in 66-67, and when you think about it, the testcard is quite surreal is a very "english" way... very "of-it's-time" and even better for the fact it was used for 25 years or so. In fact, what a great "screensave" it'd make.. Inspirational!

His music was secondary when compared to his stage performance

Eric Clapton said he was the Guvnor after seeing him play Live I believe so he must have been doing something right

I wouldn't say he was "the best" (though arguably he was the greatest all-round guitarist), but having listened to Hendrix since I was 13 I find his stuff gets better the more I hear it. All the output released in his lifetime is superb, any dross was released post-1972 when the record companies went for the cash-in by tarting up out-takes and unfinished demo's.
"Are You Experienced?"
"Axis: Bold As Love"
"Electric Ladyland"
"Band Of Gypsies"
"First Rays Of The New Rising Sun" (incorporating "The Cry Of Love" & "Rainbow Bridge" ost)
All the above are 5-star classics I'd recommend to an music lover.
There are some great live albums as well, and bear in mind this legacy was all created in less than 4 years, amazing by anybody's standards.
