Robin Cook

Died from a heart attack after collapsing on a mountain.
Given that he, and critically ill Mo Mowlam, have been sniping at Tone for the last couple of years, let the conspiracy theorists start now. And Clare Short should watch her back.
He could be an abrasive little sod, but he was a smart bloke and not frightened to speak his mind.

Listening to the radio earlier, I was taken aback to hear the news that Robin Cook had died, while out on a hiking trip, in the Highlands. I didn't have much sympathy for his political views, but I was always ready to give him a hearing. He was a great debater, a formidable intellect and a man of principle. Respect.

I met him several times in the early eighties when I worked as a student researcher/campaigner for David Ennals (then Labour MP for Norwich North where I was at uni). His office was across the corridor, and although he'd just been made a shadow treasury spokesman at the time, he always had time to talk to a callow youth such as me.
He was a great parliamentarian, a great orator and a man of strong convictions and principals.
There are too few people like him in politics these days, on either side, and he will be missed.

Replace the K on Cook with the letter L, and you have my excat opinion of him.
Of course, I kid. But RIP anyways because he's dead.

a big loss to british politics! never afraid to stand up for what he believed, despite pressure from within his own party.

Just explaining how I came to know him rather than know of him!
I could think of lots of other people around the world and in much higher positions than him if I really wanted to name drop!
