Television OB Cameras

Having watched most of the Final Test Match prompts me to ask the following question:- What is the zoom range on one of these cameras?. I ask this because it amazes me that one can read the players' test match number on their hats and shirts which can only be about 1/2 inch at most, yet is quite plain when in close-up.

On a 665mm lens? At least 20 x optical (assuming its a studio cam and not Digi-Beta or such like)

What sort of range does that equate to on my SONY DCR-TRV828E which has an 18X optical zoom?. In camera mode this ranges from 47-846mm.
The focal length of the lens is 4.1-73.8mm when converted to a 35mm still
camera.
