"I can't wait"........same old instant gratification bollox.
That must be really galling for those still stuck with dial-up. And pretty pointless for most users.

Nah not that fast, i used to work for MAN the people who make Buses Trucks and stuff like that, and they had a half gig (well 480mbps) pipe to serve upto 1000 employee's amd once all the office staff had gone home and was just the engines and machines and alarms on the net, i used to get like 40MB a second downloads, but buts look at is this way.

Most Internet Connections are on 10/100 network cards so u maybe bottled at 10mbps or 100mbps, not many have gone gigabit yet.

Lets assume ur USB 1.1 (Hi Rate) connection 2mbps is ya lot. ur SCSI Hard drive ? 40mbps, Fast SCSI 80mbps or Ultra Scsi 160mbps or Ultra Wide Scsi 320mbps, Ultra2 Wide Scsi 640 mbps, Ultra3 Wide Scsi 1280mbps.

IDE ? dont even make me laugh with the speed ur or laptop or ide hard drives.

The odds of your home machine having Ultra or Ultra Wide SCSI drives is slim, so ur hard drive wouldnt even be able to keep up with a 24mb connection.

Now u may say why do i need ultra wide, well normal scsi loses 24 u got 16 to run ur OS not gonna happen, 80 yeah it will work but ur gonan have ultra slows on there, u need the 160 or 320 throughput to handle a 24mbps connection.

Now the drain on ur resources to deal with that means ur gonna need alot of processor power, with at least 600mbps thruoughput so kiss ur P3's and early p4s goodbye, thats not to say they wont handle it on short bursts thats what cache is for, but a sustained burst of that will freeze ur pc more than antartica.

Id say its a panpipe dream, ur only as fast as ur hardware :)

**this is off the top of my head so there maybe some varience as my long multiplication and devision are rusty**
