Well your laptop can be hand luggage, new regs say u can have 1 hand luggage, 1 laptop computer, a camera bag, and 20KG of luggage, all i did was pack heave stuff into the laptop case and camere case, so i had like 4kg camera bag, 3kb laptop case, 5kg hand luggage and 20kb luggage

Just check with your flight about their rules, but im sure its the same for all of them also now lots say ur hand luggage can be as heavy as 10kg as long as its smaller than a certain size

With BMIBaby i took laptop, camera bag (about 16inch x 10 x 10) and hand luggage into the cabin.

Like i said give them a call ask them what their T&C are i found that on the BMI Website

But also included hand luggage upto 7kg, and a laptop, but they told me ca camera bag which has to fit into the overhead cabin was acceptable as well, and i took all this with me to ireland, like 21kg in luggage, 6kg or hand luggage and laptop and camera bags was packed as well

I read that first choice thing, but i assumed all the liners would have adopted that.

when i recently flew to Cork in Ireland, 3 weeks ago by BMIBaby it was the same then, but on the way back in the cork airport there was signs all over saying "Take More With You" and stuff liek that, and i remember seeing EasyJet saying as long as ur hand luggage would fit into this (had a thing the size of an over head locker, then it could be any weight and in small print it said upto a max of 10kg.

I remeber seeing the same messages on most the major operators but i didnt read them all, easy jet between the bar and duty free place so i was next to their sign

OK. Apologies if this is a long post but the issue is ridiculously complex. I do work in the travel industry so can hopefully clarify the issue.

Firstly, different airlines operate very different rules from each other. It can even be different with the same airline depending on the route.

Easyjet, Ryanair and some other "low-cost" carriers now encourage people to take more hand-luggage, so that they can reduce their costs and save time by handling less hold-luggage. That is an experimental policy which they launched recently and is certainly not common to many other airlines.

The official worldwide regulations state only that no bag can be heavier than 32kg. This is purely for the health and safety of baggage handlers. Apart from that, airlines are then entitled to set their own limits within that. For example, most trans-Atlantic scheduled airlines allow 2 suitcases of up to 32kg each, whereas some European airlines, such as Ryanair, allow only one case of up to 15kg, then they charge excess fees for anything heavier. As a rule, it is usually fair to assume that you get what you pay for. ie If you book a cheap fare, they will find some other way to get your money, such as excess baggage charges.

First Choice is a charter operator and not classed as a "low-cost", despite being just as uncomfortable. They do still provide some food and drinks, which the "low-costs" charge for. For baggage, they allow a maximum of 20kg in the hold and I think a maximum of one item up to 5kg carry-on. However, most charter airlines will turn a blind eye if you are 2 or 3kg overweight, as it is too much hassle to collect cash off you for the excess. Most also allow women to take a handbag, in addition to their allowance. Most also allow a small camera bag and a laptop case in addition. If you ask in advance or point it out at check-in, they will usually say no but if you just turn up with them and check-in as normal, they won't usually bother. Another trick is to leave the camera bag and laptop with a friend while you check-in and then take them through with you afterwards. Nobody will challenge you at security, as they don't know which airline you are on anyway. By the time you get to the aircraft, the worst that the crew will do is take a bag off you and put it in the "forward hold" with the push-chairs and fragile items, to be returned to you as you disembark.
