We have had best rock song, guitar solo etc, well how about best
ballad or romantic song.

I must admit to having a soft spot for a lovely ballad or romantic
song. I will start with a few:

The Sea - Sandy Denny

The city never sleeps - Eurythmics

In my life - Beatles (mainly Lennon)

For no one - Beatles (main McCartney)

Elusive Butterfly - Bob Lind

Northern Sky or River Man - Nick Drake (and a few other by Nick Drake)

In fact for those that like introverted rather sad folk music hunt out Nick
Drake. He died very young, in 1974 (suicide probably) and all the pain
comes out in his music. He is probably more famous now than he has
ever been.
