Dunno if it's your cup of tea, folks, but I just got the latest album by Franz Ferdinand and it's a corker!! The boys have done well- a bit more well-crafted and darker than their debut.
Anyone else heard it, what do you think?
For you Numanoids out there, Ladytron are a good electro band- got their third album yesterday. It's not their best, they've gone all electro-pop on mee!!
Anybody here heard of them??
Peace and love to you all, ff.

I never fail to mute the radio when FF come on. There?s a whole genre of similar sounding bands, chanting the same lightweight meaningless crap.
?Can I Have It Like That? - Pharrell Williams ft. Gwen Stefani ...now that?s a TUNE!

I do like Franz Ferdinand, but when bands of this slightly above average quality are touted as the best thing around its indicative of how bad the music scene is at the moment. Coldplay are another example. They're ok, yeah, but should they be regarded as one of the best bands in the world? Or maybe I'm just getting old!

Last thing that Numan did that was any good was Pure and that was the best since Replicas - kinda lost the way a bit in the 80's....

Very 'in', very knowing, very smug, and like fellow upstarts Kaiser Chiefs, there's a whacking great vacuum where something a bit more substantial should be.
Two albums worth of tailored, calculated retroism is all well and good, but they'll need to expand their range greatly to avoid the one trick pony label that hovers ever closer.

Totally agree, if you consider the best work that Coldplay and Franz have done so far its still pretty crap compaired to music done during the 60's and 70's! Or maybe I'm just getting old too!

I take on board all of your opinions. I am a fan of ze Franz, I think they are a pocket of fresh air in the polluted atmosphere that is the current music scene, and hopefully their presence will be a catalyst for other good acts to follow suit.
Coldplay, though? Don't get me started! The musical equivalent of mutton-dressed-as-lamb; their egos write cheques that their music just cant cash, IMO.
I must say, you actually get good and varied music chat on here; opinionated yet constructive, unlike fanboy pish on other 'music' forums.
I'll be 'gigged out' by the time I return to work on Monday: had (!) Goldfrapp on wed just there, Camera Obscura as part of John Peel 1st anniversary night thurs, was dragged along to see Arctic Monkeys tonight (just back) and then The Fall on Sunday! HAPPY DAYS.......
I'm gonna start up a book thread, see what you eclectic literati are reading!
Off to bed with my leopardskin liver, seeya all.
