If your Bird's got the flu, give her two aspirin and a hot lemon drink and tuck her up tightly in bed - avoid it being too tight and steer clear of Beecham's Powders, as in these modern times you'll be accused of false imprisonment or administering drugs without a license.

In reality there's as much chance of succumbing to Bird Flu as an earthquake demolishing Brighton. Bird Flu is as real as Global Warming - both invented by scare mongering politicians to stop you thinking of real world events - before you know it they've bombed Tehran and 3 budgies died in Scarborough..

As Nachovx so correctly says, the important things about scary things like bird flu (and the Ebola virus, necrotising fasciitis and other stuff over the years) is that it distracts the general public from other stuff that might be going on and also helps sell newspapers (the more hysterical the headline, the more desperate the need to sell papers).

The Millennium Bug was the perfect example: an easy way to fill space.
