Hello Guilbert
its an unfortunate state of affairs, but you cant judge an entire race of people because of dickwads like these.
The Story with Romania is far more complicated than you might imagine, and I speak from very personal experience, firstly my wife is Romanian, and secondly we have a home there near the Black Sea in a small town called Braila so I have had a chance to get under the skin as it were of the people and the country.
Once outside of Bucharest, the sheer weight of poverty is simply unbelievable, compared to western standards it takes the breath away, there are no real middle classes in Romania and its social structure is largely that of a Peasant Culture.
Packs of wild dogs roam the countryside and housing for the majority is broken crumbling ex soviet style concrete mono blocks with one bedroom regardless of how big your family is. As you drive across the country you see hundreds of abandoned mine workings, steel workings and assorted factories from soviet times many having become homes to the ex employees who find themselves living little better than animals.
and then there is the children.
have you ever come face to face with groups of children around the ages of 5 to 8 years old living rough ? gangs of ferral children sleeping in car parks and disused buildings takes some getting used to.
In Bucharest there are gangs of Pedo's (mostly british, Ironically) who take the kids in and groom them for Internet kiddie porn in return for food etc. The kids are abandoned by parents who can no longer afford to take care of them. Romania is the single biggest exporter of kiddie porn in Europe thru these channels, and the controllers of these gangs are most exclusively Brits, the faces of these pedo's along with their nationality appear on wanted signs throughout Bucharest.
another lucrative Romanian past time is People smuggling, the 'people' in this case usually being teenage girls of the kind we have all all read about in UK newspapers having been smuggled thru from Moldova and Ukraine to work in Knocking shops here in Blighty.
And if you want to get a job in Romania you better be ready to hand over a third of your salary to your boss every week if you want to keep your job, and the average working salary in Romania is 75 EUROS PER MONTH.
Transparency International rate Romania as ranking 87th in its corruption perceptions Index along with Iran, Gambia and the Dominican Republic.
Successive Governments since the revolution there have only continued to help themselves at the expense of the people, keep them in penury and the poor bastards will never know any better, the results are that the only way out of hell for some of them is whatever they can turn their hand to, and what you have pointed out is one of them.
Things are slowly changing there, and the fact the tossers you point out all came a cropper and got banged up or deported is proof, and that can only happen with closer ties with such countries, not by pulling the curtains on them and hope they rot and die, the EU is working hard to re order Romania into something resembeling a European nation, and that will make a difference to the culture there.
What is missing in the lives of Romanian people is Hope, and that is something we have to hold out our hand and offer them.

And they make the Bulgarians looks cuddly. Friend of mine has done quite a bit of work in Romania and says the place is neanderthal as to health, law and order and morals. However a trip into Bulgaria was like a step back another 50 years. We have a large Polish community in my area, been here since WW2 and they are honest and hard working. They are welcome, the rest of Eastern Europe can take a hike.
