i have downloaded a movie that is in 2 separate avi files (cd1 and cd2)
now i can convert them with winavi to dvd format but how do i burn them onto a dvd as nero will not accept 2 separate dvd files for burning onto one disk
hope that made sense?

Why not join them first then burn?
There are freeware joiners available for download. Just Google.

Join them tiogether with Mastersplitter ,,, direct dl

1) Rename the files to whatevername.avi.001, whatevername.avi.002 .... 003, 004 if more

2) Click on the 001 file and it will open Mastersplitter

3) Ignore the warning of missing 000 info file (only created if you split files yourself)

4) Mastersplitter will join the files into one, called whateverfile.avi

Use Nero to burn it
