Is specialising in porn a good thing?

Hi,
Im thinking of starting some kind of porn company that would deal mainly in videos and possibly hardcore stuff.
I was just wondering about this from a marketing standpoint and I thought should I specialise?
Im personally into big tits so it would make sense for me to make films featuring mainly girls with big tits but does that alienate possible customers or does it instantly give me a firm base of interest?
I know what would make me personally happy to do but if I do decide to do this then it has to be run as a business otherwise Im just going to lose all my money and make shit films.
I dont know about this but Im thinking Joe King might agree with me that losing all of your money on tits isnt a bad way to go broke!
So what do I do? Does anyone have any ideas as to whats going to be the next big film craze or will gonzo Vs glossy last forever?
Talk amongst yourselves and ill put in some points along the way...

Whatever you do with your 'some kind of porn company', I'd suggest specialising in the things that any business should care about:
Good Customer Service
Honest Advertising
Decent, fairly priced products
Although of course, certain firms seem to do alright without bothering about those three points?

Yes, yes they do, don't they? And I say that only because I know who you are and what you're talking about. It's quite ironic, really...

personally id diversify as much as possible, the wider the consumer base you appeal to in theory the more sales

If you've got shedloads of cash, invest in distribution. That's where the money is, but I reckon you're going to need 50-100k and wait a year for a decent return. Producing? There isn't much money in this either unless you have loads of content. I'd take Mr Steeles advice. This porn games sewn up in this country. If you want to produce videos, I suggest you shoot a decent pilot and shop around for a buyer before you proceed further.

Specialisation will only work if you can think up an angle that hasn't already been covered: Score have the big-tit side sewn-up, as you know. You would need a hell of a lot of capital to compete with them.
Then again, there's a lot to be said for a small-time outfit specialising in something they're really keen on, rather than doing something that doesn't really appeal to them personally. I guess I'm trotting out the old line about turning your hobby into a business.
You won't make any serious money in production: you will do well to cover your costs.

You would be better off investing your money in some other business. Buy a used car dealership or a pub. The porn market is saturated. Only the top few names make money and thats usually due to deals with big USA distributers. I love porn but I know that its just a hobby for me as a collector. I know that if I took it up as a business I would not make money. Why would people buy my stuff when they already know that Uncle Ben has a new film due out? I think that the rapid growth in the number of producers has made the market so competetive that only the top few can make a living. In a nutshell you have more and more producers all aiming at the same number of customers. The amount of consumers remains static while the amount of suppliers rises. Supply and demand. Soon supply will outweigh demand. Thats bad news for the industry.
I might be wrong of course. I do not have a degree in business studies. But neither does Richard Branson.

sad state of affairs when one of the most respected producers/directors of british porn advises budding film makers not to invest in making British Porn, or can we take it as red: didnt work for Ben Dover, Omar, Phil McCavity ... pretty sure these guys are not doing it to make a fast buck, and obviously just doing it for the sake of the Great British view Porn Public, eh, or is that me just me??
if you have the ideas, the capital and the will ... go for it, common sense tells us these guys are not just in it for a hobby, there must be some reward, financially or otherwise!!

Sorry, Crofter, but these guys all started VERY small (Ben/Omar as actors): the devil was hidden in your detail- capital.
Without that, and a VERY large slice of luck, you cannot cut it.
Take a look at the trouble Marino has been having (true, not all due to cash), and he's been in the Biz (and is well-respected, AFAIK) for ages.
