....on digital SLR's.

I'm thinking of buying an 8 mega pixel camera in the Jan sales, specifically for solo and girl/girl shoots.

Any recommendations and price range,or should I go for a higher spec?

My long term objective is publication.

Thanks and Merry Christmas to all. !xmas! !xmas! !xmas!

Canon EOS300D (Digital Rebel) is a very good stripped down version of the EOS 10D, it's 6.3MP but you won't notice the difference between that and 8MP (the Mega Pixel thing is all a big sales pitch con). Price around ?550.

The EOS350D is 8MP for around the same price but is very plasticy.

I would suggest you read this article regarding the megapixel myth and then take it from there.

Nikon. Everyone I know who uses Canon has had grief. At the top end the Nikon D2x is about half the price of the equivalent Canon and beats it hands down in every test I've read. Nikon are the dog's bollocks.

Mind you, ultimately, film still beats digital!

What digital can't do is Black & White - it can't process information passed Zone V and a ?10 Kodax Box Brownie from evilBay will give better resolution than any (yes any) digital camera on the market even the mighty Hassleblad H1D, so age? Maybe. Ignorance? Deffinately not.

I was looking at the new Nikon D200 - very nice, think Canon ought to be a bit worried.

No, that comment echoes the views of magazine editors and customers. If you think digital can produce as precise an image as film then you are a total bollock!

I haven't seen it but I'm sure it will be very good, it effectively is a "Pro Camera" whatever the hell that means in the real world. It's Nikon's latest so it may well have some improvements on the flagship D2x and it will be great quality like all their stuff. May Santa be generous this year!!
