Help with buying a camcorder please

Hi all. I wondered if I could ask for some help in choosing a digital camcorder? If I'm honest, most of its use will be for recording home-made fun in the bedroom so I wondered what kind of image quality I could expect for my budget of about ?500 -?1000?

I'm a total newbie when it comes to camcorders but is the kind of quality you see on the better pay-sites achieved with very expensive broadcast quality kit? I have used a VHS-C and the quality is not all that great. If I'm going to invest in a new one, I want a pretty noticeable improvement.

Any and all views (with specific model numbers) would be more than welcome!

TIA

To start with I'd say a Digital Mini DV camera with 3CCD's (definitely not a single CCD).

Mine is a Panasonic NV-GS75 and gives cracking results for it's size although the real pro's on here my disagree with me.

For home made fun in the bedroom (assuming its for your eyes only) then get yourself pretty much any mini-dv camcorder - there are loads now at under ?250 which are more than enough for what (I think) you want.

Thanks for your advice guys. I've got myself a Sony Handycam which is 3ccd and seems to be just what I was after. Cheers.
