PSP UMD

Does anyone even buy films on this format? Seems like a pure waste of money watching a movie on a screen this size. What was Sony thinking? Has it taken off?
Doubt we'll see porn on this format, except you can play windows files on it so why bother when you can rip your own movies to play on this format?
Feedback please.

I own a PSP and its a pretty decent machine.
I am not interested in watching movies on it but having seen movies playing on it I tell you that the quality is outstanding, its just as good as a portable dvd player if not better.
However, UMD standing for 'universal media disk' is a little strange as I can't think of anything other than a PSP that you can play the disks on, plus there are no extra's on the disk making DVD a far more attractive option and a cheaper one also.
Porn on PSP? I don't see why not, just depends on how much it costs to produce and whether Sony sell enough of the console to make it worthwhile making them.
The beauty of DVD over PSP is that now you can get a dvd player for ?20 compared to that of a console retailing at ?180 minimum.
If I were a porn producer then there's no way I'd even consider UMD..... but I'd be prepared to wait and see if the format takes off.
Oh, and as for playing windows files on the PSP I think it has to be encoded with Mpeg-4 codec to play on it. I've tried to load a few files and its not as easy as I thought.

Porn will show up on anything that can display it. If you invent a format, it will find a place.
However if you want to watch Cock Suckers and Clit Bangers IX on the commute to work - you really do have a problem.....

all i did was buy the giga mem sticks and then made a folder on the stick called FILM and through the pc coded mpeg4 files on the stick and they play back great. the sound is great the wide screen is great in fact as long as you are pc literate the whole psp thing is simple.

Hi Terry
John has some software (PSP video9)to encode avi/m-peg/divx to m-peg4 format playable on the PSP, if you get a Gb card you can fit 2 or 3 films on it.
The UMD is expensive & very limited unlike the 40,60 & 100 Gb media players that can record & hold up 200 movies.
