They train guys to join the army, they send them off to fight in a war in which no-one quite knows what anyone is fighting for. A load of Iraqi chavs chuck missiles at them, so being soldiers with a bit of power, plus the all-important "peer/group pressure" they round a few of em up and teach them who's boss. Their only mistake was filming it.
I'm not defending moronic behaviour but when you send a group of blokes (the majority of which are not going to be that clever or they wouldn't volunteer to get blown up) to war, the country they are serving shouldn't be attacking them.
The News Of The Screws has no morals, it (like all newspapers) is only interested in publicity and circulation. The media circus created for this today will ensure both are boosted, but like most of these tabloid "expose's" it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. This story isn't even news as far as I'm concerned, it's irrelevant bullshit.

If they decide to prosecute additional people who weren't there (as in the way they tried to prosecute an officer for murder who wasn't anywhere near the alleged crime in that murder case that fell apart a few weeks ago) then I hope they prosecute right the way to the top.

And that means Blair. If they want to hold accountable people who weren't actually at the scene then they should prosecute the one responsible for those troops being there in the first place. He, ultimately, is entirely responsible for those troops being there in that situation.

A school friend of mine always wanted to join the Army. He joined the Cadets and then signed up full time when old enough and ended up in 2 Para. He did tours of Northern Ireland, Kosovo, the Balkans etc.

He always used to tell me about Ireland - he would be on the streets with full kit, live ammunition etc. and would have kids/teenagers walking up to him calling him every name under the sun, spitting at him, throwing dog shit at him, throwing anything that could be made into a missile at him and there was not a thing he could do about it. Frustrations boil over and the inevitable happens. It's always the soldier 'prosecuted' for his actions.

There are two sides to every story. What have we seen on TV? Some soldiers beating some Iraqi's. What's the full story? Maybe they deserved it, maybe they didn't. We have not been given the full context to make that judgement, but that is not really the issue here.

What News International have done is to make the job harder than it already was, there will be reprisal over this. I think it is gross irresponsibility to publish the video. What they should have done is gone to the M.O.D. and handed the tape over for the RMP to deal with.

The footage will lead to more roadside bombs, more UK army deaths and a continuation of a war that is both morally and ethically bankrupt.
