John Motsons 'Americanisms'

Over the past few weeks, I have noticed Motty coming out with some American 'sayings' that have NO place when commentating on English Football.
He mentioned the Kop fans were 'giving Neville 'the bird''' when Liverpool played Man Utd in the FA Cup game last week (in reference to Nevilles return to Anfield after celebrating THAT goal in a premiership match and taunting kopites)
In the same game he mentioned how the 'bar had been raised' in the standards of the modern game, and tonight he said that some fringe players looking to get in Svens squad 'had to step up to the plate'.
Nothing to do with all 3 'gems' were from Anfield, and more likely that Motty goes to Disneyworld and spends time listening to American commenators.
LEAVE IT OUT MOTTY!!!!!! Stick to what you do best (well, not as good as Barry Davies or the much missed Brian Moore)

I agree.

I also think Motson is a poor commentator and cannot understand why he seems so popular with the public. He talks crap and goes on about sod all. Do give up the day job Motson!!!!!

He is not fit to lace the late great Brian Moore's shoelaces, he is also no where near as good as the much missed Barry Davies.

The best ever football commentator is off course Brian Moore.

What are the opinions of fellow forum members on the great Brian Moore.

I get the impression that Motty DOES know his stats, but always seems to waffle in a lull period, and chuckles at his own piss poor jokes

Well, as Brian died a few years ago, we cannot compare them now, but Brian and Big Ron Atkinson were a good 'double act' compared to Motty and LeSaux

I always remember Brian Moore's commentary on the England v Argentina match at France in the World Cup in 1998 and how exciting he made the match with his excellent commentary and particularly when Owen scored his wonder goal to put us 2-1 up!!!

At the end as David Batty ran up to take the penalty to keep us in the World Cup Brian asked his co-commentator Kevin Keegan 'Well Kevin does David Batty score?'

'Yes' says Keegan confidently and the rest as they say is history. Pure drama you cannot buy the feeling of elation followed by utter dejection that football brings with it no wonder it is called the beautiful game!!!!

PS Batty fucking missed if you didnt know and after the match Batty had the cheek to say he wasnt bothered anyway, the twat. I dont think he played for his country again and quite rightly as well!!!!

PPS Good result tonight against Uruguay 2-1, well done lads and best wishes for the World Cup!!!!!!!!

Whats the point of Ian Wright? What does he actually add to the studio debate? Just a pointless twat tonight.

I think I remember Brian Moore saying that asking Kevin Keegan whether the Battmeister would score was the biggest mistake of his career.

There's still some good commentators out there.

I've always had time for Martin Tyler and I like Alan Parry's passion for the game.

The bloke on ITV's good too. Clive Tyldsley or Tylsey or whatever the fuck his name is.

Motson is past his sell by date and has been for some time. So much so that he has become an embarrassment for the Beeb.

Well he certainly put Keegan on the spot if you pardon the pun.

Keegan got it wrong like but then what else could he say I suppose but 'yes' when asked.

Brian Moore is sadly missed. I think Martin Tyler is the best of the modern commentators, I like Ian Darke also from Sky Sports and Clive Tyldesley on ITV.

Motson needs retiring but no doubt he will still be there for the next World Cup in South Africa. I hope not like.

Did anyone else notice that after Uruguay went 1-0 up with that wonder strike, that Motson said '26 minutes...that's appropriate'.

WHAT THE FUCK?

26 mins...the average length of time a president serves in Uraguay?
