In the case of Randy Newman, he can be called a songwriter because that is what he has done: written a song. Repeatedly, over four decades. Simon Smith And His Amazing Dancing Bear, in the 1960s---covered by Alan Price, I think. Short People in the 1970s. A few years ago, Newman won an Oscar at long last for Best Original Song (ironic, mais non?) after being nominated 803 times. And today, I catch the start of some programme called Monk, with the theme song by Mr N. Every song he has written has been the same fecking tune, with different words.

Even Status Quo have changed occasionally.

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Thanks for listening. Or not.
