Why are we still using mercury to fill teeth as it is one of the most toxic substances known to humankind? !shocked!

At least in the Netherlands no dentist uses mercury anymore.
Heard it from my best friend, who happens to be a dentist.

Hi Dutch,
I lived in Amsterdam for over five years after leaving England because of censorship. I saved a policewoman while I was there who was held hostage by a gunman.
I had an excellent dentist on Keizergracht.!grin!
I loved it over there no censorship.
Mike.

when it's used as the compund amalgum mercury is held in a non toxic form, but when bodies are cremated the mercury is released as a gas to the atmosphere and is one of the main causes of atmospheric mercury pollution in the UK.

a lot of dentists now use ceramic filling but it all comes down to cost in the end

Indeed - it's where the phrase 'mad as a hatter' comes from. The Victorians used to use it to make thier top-hats shiny and the mercury would eventually send them mad.
