Advertising Claims

Have you ever noticed with most everyday products, whether it be washing powder, instant coffee, cat food or whatever, that about every two years the packaging proudly proclaims: "New - Improved!" ?

If these claims are true, then one is tempted to cast one's mind back thirty or forty years to when these products first came on the market and conclude that the original versions must have been so poor that the washing powder actually made your clothes dirtier, the coffee must have tasted like bilge-water and as for those poor cats.........

I remember, when pampers nappies went from being just nappies, to being made in two kinds, for girls and boys, and then went to the new improved unisex design. ie back to what they originally were!

I remember my girlfriend's cats turning their noses up at and refusing to eat the "new improved" Whiskas (whereas they'd quite merrily scoff down the old version).

Most advertising claims are bollocks anyway.

What about demestos? The old version killed 'all known germs dead' and now we have 5X - stronger and better, so it must kill all unknown germs now too........

Erm...Jacques,

I think you'd better sit down.

Tea?

There you go.

I'm afraid I must tell you that the old version of Domestos only claimed to kill '99% of all known germs'.

Have a Jaffa Cake, old chap.

Bugger!!

CanI have a slice of cake please with my tea? Battenberg would be good, it's the best of all the cakes.

Splendid cake, Battenberg, no doubt.

Lately, however, I've taken quite a fancy to a date and walnut cake that my wife discovered at the local Morrison's store.

I expect the Labour PR machine will present us with a new, improved John Prescott soon enough.

(50% less fat, wholesome goodness, keeps on going.....etc)

Golf has the best advertising, every new ball is longer and every driver easier to hit and adds another 30 yards. So I should be driving it 800 yards dead straight!

Best advert I ever saw was at a trade show. A company who made sewerage and effluent systems had the logo "Your shit is our business!". Classic and a true statement.
