Our Version of "The Estates"

Here are some pics of "The Projects" as we call them here in Chicago. I posted them on another thread (Drugs and other bad....) but I figured I'd make a new topic out of it just to let everybody take a look at'em. These were where the poor blacks stayed including me when I was a baby for a short time. I stayed in the ones like the red bricked ones but they were beiged bricked like the other ones. Like I said before we had a variety of low income housing from the "high rise" buildings to the two-story family homes that were connected like town homes.Tell me what do ya think!

That's good news. Most of the nastiest 60s/70s estates in London are being replaced with much nicer estates now. The lesson to be learned is: don't let rich people decide how poor people should live. But somehow I doubt our idiot leaders (UK or US) have learned that one yet.

You got that right!. Only problem now is the problems that fostered itself within those walls of the projects(gangs, drugs, etc.) when they tore'em down is they forced all those people to the south and west suburbs and now we have all those problems. (Like they weren't there before).

A friend of mine, an African American woman, has just moved from Houston to live in London because she got sick of seeing black people end up dying young or in jail. Her sister just dropped of a heart attack age 39... it's not normal.
If America spent 10% of its defence budget on welfare...

I don't blame her for the move. I thought about a different country to live in and Canada seems like a nice place to be, especially Toronto, I've been to Canada a lot during my over-the-road trucking days. Oh yeah, where did she move in London? I hear at a time Brixton was a place you might not want to be. I've often heard it compared to black neighborhoods here in Chicago or whereever the ghetto is.

Brixton can get a little rough but I don't think it's as bad as many US cities. It's one of the most lively places in London for music and dancing, so people travel there from all over. The major difference in London compared to America is a lack of segregation, so there are no truly "black" areas. Even Brixton has a lot of white residents.
I was in Harlem once and I was the only white face visible on 125th street... that doesn't happen in London.

That's good to hear then. The one one thing to remeber about the states that it was founded on racisim and segregation is a part of it. The other thing is there is more blacks in the states than it is in Britain which is probably one reason why you don't have racial problems. Simply put, there's too many of us here and when that happens that scares white people here because we can't or don't want to stay in the same "hood" forever so we have to branch out. To this day there are neighborhoods we can't move to not only because we might get chased out but other things like "redlining" or just simply telling us that houses or apartments aren't available. This is called discrimination. We do have mixed "hoods" but not a whole lot. Plus the Mexican population is growing here in the states by leaps and bounds and they have a better time moving into white neighborhoods than we (blacks) do.

Definition of redlining:
