when these people came over, germany and denmark didn't exist as countrys they were tribes who discovered a new plot of land to settle in.

Hm, there is a region in North-Germany still called "Angeln" today.
Anyway, the distinction Denmark/Germany would not have been very meaningful 1500 years ago.
