Reading a Swiss paper today, when I noticed a piece on our President aka Prime Minister regarding his future earnings. it says
"The after dinner speaking and unversity/college lectures are expected to generate a five year fee income in excess of ?15 million UK pounds. This figure be enlarged with directorships and corporate invitations pushing the figure close to ?25,000,000 UK pounds. Mr Blair will gain most of this income from the United States, his popular approach and support for the country is first and foremost. If, and it is believed certain, he becomes a Lord the earning power will increase...............................etc etc etc.....
!hmmm!
No bloody mention of the problems he's leaving behind, to many for me to list but i will start the list...........you may add to it

Shit isn't it? But if we can call Thatcher a 'Lady', then we can't complain when Tony becomes 'Lord'.
I know it looks like I'm sticking up for him, but compared to other Priministers in my lifetime -I'm 30- he's been the best of the bunch so far. I guess if you're older you may be able to refer to the 'good ole times' but my opinions are based on:
James Callaghan
Margerate Thatcher
John Major
Tony Blair
With that lot, what are voters supposed to think?!
Do you get trampled by the herd, or run to let the lions eat you? !laugh!

That is, of course, dependant on us not all getting nuked after the turmoil him and his buddy, Dubbya, have been causing in the world.

True, true....... Thatcher would have dealt with 9/11 & 7/7 in a simular fashion TBH.

It's funny but: if Churchill was under as much media scrutiny as priministers are these days, would we see him in the same light? Priministers of that time could keep things away from the public way easier.
My guess is that even a saint couldn't do the job these days without critisism.

It's worth looking at Churchill's career outwith the second world war and then ask again if he was such a great Briton. Even some of the ideas he came up with or gave the go-ahead for during that conflict (the invasion of Norway, anyone?) were pretty crap.
Right man at the right time, when our backs were to the wall. But otherwise, I feel he was not a nice guy at all.

>Here's a scenario, swop Churchill for Blair in 1940 and predict what happens, but remember Blair's been through more wars than Mr C.
Don't think so. Churchill actually fought in the North West Frontier, Sudan, South Africa and the Western Front. Four wars where he was actually in the front line and fought. Unlike Phony Tony, he actually knew what war entails before he sent anyone else to fight.
