Having eaten at McDonalds in Tokyo and I'm sure Pearl Harbour was an attack on Merkinland, I'd say that was utter bollocks.

No idea on the film though.

I know it as 'No two countries that have McDonalds have been at war with each other'. I suppose the implication is a capitalist country does not go to war with another. You might as well say that parliamentary democracies dont, which is generally true. Do both Israel and Lebenon have the Golden Arches?

I'm also not aware of any COUNTRY, since Japan, attacking the US.

McDonalds didn't exist when Japan attacked the US.

McDondonals only started in the mid / late 1950?s?

I suppose the implication being that corporate interests have supplanted national interests now and 'No two countries that have McDonalds have been at war with each other' or will go to war now or in the future.

Just an idea, I neither support nor oppose the proposal.

I read the other day an article that said that Britain knew Japan were going to attack Pearl Harbour, because they had broken the Japanese codes and were reading their signals. Britain didn?t warn the US because they knew that the attack would force the US into the war.

Britain knew that it couldn?t win the war with Germany without the US on her side.

I recommend a book called "Day of Deceit" by Robert Stinnett. He demonstrates quite convincingly that the US had excellent sigint telling them that a Japanese attack was imminent, but FDR sat on it, because he needed a good reason to get the US into the war. He judged, rightly in my view, that the US needed to fight Nazism and Japanese fascism, but the US public would only go to war if they were attacked first, so he just had to let it happen.

Not only could the US read several Japanese codes by late 1940, but they had listening stations which allowed them to track the Japanese fleet by its radio traffic, even if they could not read it.

Washington knew the Japanese fleet was at sea in late November 1941, but they actually kept the commander at Pearl Harbor in the dark, and this poor sod was later made the scapegoat for the attack. He had wanted to send long range flying boat patrols out into the north Pacific, where the attack came from, and was ordered not to by Washington, because they did not want the Jap fleet to be found before the attack.

Politics is a very dirty business indeed.

I didn't say there was a McDonalds in Japan then, what I said was the only country to attack the US since we did in 1812, was Japan. No country, with or without a crap burger chain, has attacked them. 9/11 was not an attack by a sovereign country , despite claims of Iraqi involvement believed by a lot of Americans, but by an 'organisation' generally made up of people who used to get their arms from the west. These days you could almost call Al-Qaida a brand or an idea. No central planning as such, more small groups inspired by Bin Laden doing what is expected of them.

The US declared war on us in 1812.

After which we invaded and set fire to Washington, burning the nearly finished Capitol Building in 1814, in retaliation for the Americans attacking and burning York, Ontario. The White House fire was put out by heavy rain.

Don't know if someone's quoted it in a film or documentary...but this is "The Golden Arches Theory Of Conflict Prevention" conceived by Thomas Friedman in the New York Times...it sounds like the sort of thing that Michael Moore or Tarantino would quote, though! Here's a link to a bigger article about it...
