Hi. I want to be able to record as a video file certain scenes from dvds. I usually play my dvds through Power Dvd or Windows Media Player but these don't offer a video file capture service. I have had a quick look at Windows Movie Maker but it doesn't support dvd playing. Can anyone help please? I already know how to rip and copy dvds-I just want to capture say a few minutes at a time-certain scenes out of films.
Can anyone help please? I have a fairly decent pc 3.2 ghz processor and a couple gig ram. Thanks-Chris.

You need a capture device whicn can be purchased quite cheaply ,an external one would probably be best for you as you just plug it in to a usb port, you can then connect a dvd or video player to it or a camcorder and then capture film with widows movie maker.

Rip the dvd to your hdd and then find the VOB file. Now as VOB files are basically MPEG2 files (cue Mad Burt to say hold on a minute !laugh!) you can get the bits you want by using Chopper XP or MPEG2Cut and then save them as mpeg files. (both are freeware, google them)
Now you have an mpeg file and can convert it to what you want using DivX Convertor, WinAVI etc or leave as is.
