i'm afraid kids are not told about the age of consent anymore or the fact that if they have a older boyfriend its considered statutory rape of a minor, they should be told exactly these laws and the trouble the boyfriend is in,i think a lot of girls have boyfriends above 16.there seems to be a policy of dealing with the after affects rather than the cause.

What difference does it make Tommy? Try to tell these kids something is wrong and they'll look at you like you're from another planet and do it anyway.
Its the way its going and theres no saving us....
A lot of the kids today werent brought up in as much dragged up. There is no excuse for ignorance.
Want proof? I watched a special report on pregnant mums this week and found out a lot of pregnant girls are still going out raving and having a good time getting drunk as if this is not going to have any serious repercussions on the development of the child.

I'm pretty sure the US ain't behind. but it's the Mexicans who might be making that a reality. Pregnancy of black and white teens are dropping but oral sex is rampant which is making STDs cases rise.

You're right CJ - Britain heads the European table but America heads the world for teen pregnancies. So you have to suspect that religious morality and lack of sex education has something to do with it.

I remeber seeing one of those old public information movies within a movie about teenage pregnancies from the 60's.
Even though it was matter of fact and to the point about losing the best part of your teenage years, the scariest bit was how dull it made life look in comparison shouldering responsibility so early in life. Thats what the kids today should learn. They'll rubber up quick fast then

Most young people are having sex before 16 - why not? isn't it natural? I think we should go with the laws of some other countries who say it's ok at say the lower age of 14 as long as the age gap between the couple isn't more than 2/3 years. This would work better in my opinion.
They are gonna do it under 16 anyway so why can't we all be more open, honest and adult about it? Maybe then there would be less teenage pregnancies etc.
I was 14 when I first had full sex - and still now at 24 think that that was fine and that I was ready and mature enough mentally.

I agree. Kids don't wait till adults say it's OK to have sex. Arming them with knowledge, condoms and morning-after pills would help. We need to learn from the Scandinavians and the Dutch.
