I downloaded beta version 2 and gave it a quick try. But for the life of me I cannot figure out why I would need it (or Apple's 'Aperture' for that matter). It just seems to me that you can do pretty much all of that stuff in Adobe Photoshop and it's companion program, Adobe Bridge. I don't get it - but if anyone else does, then please enlighten me.

I have the same thoughts as the Ossifer. I can't see why I would need it. As far as I can see it's a workflow tool that does what Bridge, Photoshop and Camera Raw do. The only advantage that I have found is possible integration with InDesign and Illustrator.
Having said that the Greyscale Mixer is rather interesting and if you can't get you head around Curves in Photoshop, Lightroom makes them easier.
The Jury is still out for me, I might find a use for it but do I really need it?
I'd be more interested in an Adobe product that enabled Photoshop to be used in Premiere
