I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Hunter after a match at the Barbican in York a few years ago.

He took 2 minutes out his day to sign autographs for us and pose for a photo with my star struck and goofy 17 year old sister who fancied him like mad. He came across as being a nice fella, very approachable and had time to sign every autograph for every fan.

It's an absolute tragedy when somebody is cut down at 27 and in the prime of their life. His wife loses her husband and his daughter her father. Tragic indeed.

It's a cliche but they do say only the good die young.

R.I.P. mate.

Tragic, terrible news- I was also thinking he was winning his battle against cancer.

In the last two years he had the illness whilst competing, if he was in his prime, I'm sure he would have won the World Championship. Alas, not to be- a nice fella who played the game with flair and who had the heart of a lion.

Thoughts and prayers to the family, RIP Paul.

I agree terrible news!

After he took part in this year's world snooker championships I also thought he was getting better.

My thoughts go to his wife and his 10 month old daughter.
