I couldn't understand why a few of the LAbour MP's have been running around getting big retailers to give, as well as asking MP's to give up a days pay all for this Farepak situation.....................but then i learnt..........

Is it me or are all the main players in government/labour party scots and treating scotland as a special case...drugs you can get on the NHS there but not in england....uni fees etc........???

The Scottishness has little or nothing to do with it. Farepak has been taking money from customers (including many in England) who are saving to buy Christmas gifts etc. Unfortunately, Farepak has been in financial trouble----a situation its banker HBOS was well aware of but didn't feel anyone else needed to be told about. Farepak's parent company decided to invest all the savings into offsetting all its own problems---apparently perfectly legally.

The fuss is due to no one wanting to be seen as playing Scrooge this Christmas. The action of MPs and various retailers (the latter no doubt looking for positive feedback from customers; can't fault M&S, Sainsbury, Tesco etc for their PR departments) have shamed HBOS into donating itself.

It's rather like if you had paid for a holiday a year in advance, then the holiday firm went bust a week before you were due to go. You'd want your money back, or your holiday.

No need to see any Scottish conspiracy where none exists, VB---although I realise it is a fashionable theory that there's a tartan mafia behind everything. If there is such a group, I'm upset I haven't been invited to join.

Caractacus i do aggee, however scots do have a chip on their shoulder, but not much more than other race (?), but they are more vocal about it.

The Scots- and Welsh- were effectively colonised by the English for 400- 700 odd years. So I'm not surprised they are asserting themselves now!

You don't fully understand the issues Cenobitez. People like Warren are our moral guardians...they are for more moral than we are....we don't fully understand the issues cos we read the Daily Mail (a right wing, fully paid up fascist rag according to them) and they read the Guardian (the journal for the Morally righteous). These people are the custodians of our moral welfare and we need them to point out to us that we are racist, homophobic,sexist and disciminatory in every way they see as possible. Long may they rule (but in a non-elitist, and fully inclusive non-discriminatory manner). You must remember that this moral dictatorship has been with us for a very long time...the people who used to cry 'heretic' at any innocent utterance during the Inquisition, are the same people who now scream 'racist' or 'islamophobic' when we dare to disagree with them or dispute their claims. And they call us Fascists!
