So our pm has apologised for the slave trade, im now waiting with baited breath for the french, italian and any one else who has had a foothold in our country and therefore may have had my ancestors in slavery.
Any other thoughts on this?

First, when the hell did 'of' replace 'have'? Is this some kind of street talk, or was there an official changeover? I hear TV presenters using it, although I realise you dont have to be educated for that, but it's appalling.
This 'deep sorrow' he expressed (apparently thats different from an apology) is nothing more than a political stunt, but he can do what he likes as long as he makes it clear that this statement does not include me.
He should start by apoogising for stuff he's been directly involved in, before something that no-one alive was involved with.

Standard onion job from B.Liar. Maybe he should apologise to Dr Kelly's widow for letting his thug Campbell hound him to his death? Any chance of that? Thought not.

Most Germans walking around now weren't even born when World War Two finished yet they are constantly made to appologise for the deeds of that war.
By the same logic, Tony Blair should appologise for the slave trade. I am deeply ashamed of being white because Hitler was white so therefore I am Hitler. Hang on...I shot myself in 1945. Oh Bugger ! This new way of thinking is so hard to follow.

More politically correct nonsense and crocodile tear-shedding to appear "compassionate" and "caring".
This recent trend for demanding / giving apologies for past evils is all very silly because it's an attempt to apply today's moral standards to historical events when the events in question were - whether we like it or not - perfectly normal, legal and acceptable at the time.
If this daftness is going to be followed through to its (il)logical conclusion, then the Italian Prime Minister should also be standing up and delivering a similar contrite apology to half of Europe - the whole fucking Roman Empire was, after all, built on slavery.
But then again I suppose that was essentially "white-on-white" slavery as opposed to "white-on-black" and therefore somehow "less evil" in the minds of the bleeding hearts.

My thoughts exactly Eric...
More than anywhere else in the world, this country is sabotaging itself with middle-class hand-wringing guilt over it's past days as an Empire, which is why all the insincere arseholes that govern this hole are intent on running it into the ground. See, if we let all these victims of oppression come here we also, by way of an apology, have to let them do exactly what they want which is why they bypass the lovely open spaces of Germany and France, the superior climate of southern mainland Europe, and head straight to this over-crowded melting pot of handouts and absolute tolerence that allow "the oppressed" to live how they want whilst paralising us native white evil bastards.
By way of further appologies they are even exporting jobs by the thousands to these former colonies.
That play-actor Bliar has a lot to apologise for, fucking slavery from hundreds of years is not one of them. Is nothing real anymore??

The slave trade was probably the worst thing Britain ever did throughout its history, and the after-effects still reverberate all over the world. Germany is still held responsible for the after-effects of the holocaust. In the same way it's right that Britain takes responsibility for the mess we created through slavery (which was much bigger than the Nazi holocaust).
