Rock Concert Sound Levels - PAIN !

I went to Kylie Minogue's 'Showgirl' concert the other night ( down here in Perth ) and had to leave within a few minutes because the sound levels were absolute agony. Each drumbeat felt like Mike Tyson punching my eardrum. It was simply painfull. Everyone else seemed to be fine with it and this amazed me. Is everyone else fucking deaf, or too embarrassed in front of their friends to admit its hurting ?
I actually listen to a lot of rock music through headphones - which are often painted as the bad-boys of hearing loss - without any serious hearing loss ( I get my hearing tested free as part of my job ).
I haven't been to a serious big pop concert for about 15 years ( fucking HATE the general pubic ), but I seem to remember that while they were loud, they weren't like this. Has anyone else here found modern concert sound like torture ?

Yes, I know you're going to say anything from Kylie is torture. I went because we just dont get many really big acts comming to Perth and I wanted to see her raunchy dancers too ( the girlie ones ! )

Were you the only heterosexual man there? I know that's what it felt like when I took her to see Take That at Manchester City.
I've personally never felt it was too loud, from front row (Bryan Adams), to back of the stadium when the stands were shaking! (U2)
When I was at Live 8 last year you could still here perfectly, even though we were 1/3 of the way back, and you could have conversations at a relatively normal volume. There were speaker stacks in front and behind us, yet the only painful part was Dido singing badly out of tune.

Best sound quality ever was Iron Maiden. Worst was Def Leppard, and Joe had a bad throat! Loudest bar none was Metallica, couldn't hear properly for 3 days afterwards. Mate John went to see AC/DC at Whitley Bay, low ceiling, tiles fell off when they fired their cannons in "For those"...!

I think I might have been ! The crowd was easily 95% female. Yes, I did feel a bit strange.

Completely. I used to joke that a gay guys and me had something in common - we both liked Kylie.

I recently suffered more-than-usual ear pain after seeing Bernie Torme last month.
Worth it though!
