I dont know if it has been said before, but what about introducing a java chat window or perhaps set up an irc channel.

I think it will be a good idea, people can go into the chat insted of posting off topic or turning a topic into an off topic post. that would make your job alot easier would it not alec?
i know their are a lot of other chat rooms out their, its just people seem to come here so much, their are so many people with a vast amount of knowledge on the whole uk porn thing (for want of a better word), not to mention the humor

it could also be used for any quick questions and just generally chatting about the uk porn industry. people could go into the chat room and ask whatever question they have to the people in the chat, if they dont get the answer they are looking for, they can then post it up on the forum.

what does everyone else think?

it wouldn't necessarily make our job any easier, as the chat room would require monitoring, too. in fact, the immediacy of people communicating in real time, means it would probably be more work, rather than less. this isn't an outright no but all things would have to be considered in light of our limited resources.

of course, there's nothing to stop a group of enthusiastic forumites organising their own irc channel, although it would have no relationship with bgafd, as such.

Mmmm. One the one hand, this idea appeals, but on the other hand, certain, um, 'less than polite' posters would be able to abuse others in real time, which would make Alec and Woodys jobs even harder. There is also a lot to be said about the present set-up which allows you to browse at your leisure, rather than chasing active chat, and therefore not missing out on the reading of/contributing to posts which are days/weeks old.

thats whats so good about irc, you can set up a bot which can moderate it for you when you are not their. set it to not allow certain words of abuse/offense. also, if someone is getting out of hand the people in the chat room can vote them off/record what they have said in the chat and post it on the forum or e-mail ot to the mods.

anyone interesed in doing a dummy run sometime in the next couple of weeks?

Don't let the sarcastic/humurous answers you may get, put you off. Between the moderators (Alec, PhilK,Woody) and (sometimes when we are sober)people in the biz, you, and anyone else CAN get serious answers to questions, provided they are not just stuff you could find out for yourself through a little research on this very site. This site is a source of knowledge and people like yourself should USE it, it's what is there for.

im knocking the humor, its one of the things i like about this site. I use this site all the time for the knowledge it holds, always helps me in deciding what vids to purchase next.
