If it's the latest version, right-click the black bar after it says "windows media player"

This should bring up a menu, then;

View > Enhancements > Video Settings

There you should find controls for brightness and contrast

Problem is that you have to do this every time you play a file - Microsloth forgot to make it so you could set it and forget it........

Thanks Jacques. But the problem is the picture quality was fine until yesterday and now the its just too dark. Even adjusting the temporary contast colour settings etc does not help an enormous amount. Dont know what I have done may better to re install??

You could try this anyway
