100% Agree

Last year I brought the Liteon 5045 I think it had a 160GB HDD. I had sooooo many problems....
Bad compatability problems with other people complaining their dvd drives couldn't read clips at the end of a dvd I had burnt on the Liteon.
And so many other recorder/edit problems. ie whilst dividing a very important film it gets the FAMOUSE Liteon STOP BUG. The end result of this lock up is a fuck up.... you loose the whole film.
Then when you set a program to record it may or may not do it...
The user's on the Liteon forum seem quite happy to live with these bugs for some reason!!!!

This intermittant timer recording was the last straw. Came home from Holiday to find the LAST EVER EVER Startreck not bloody recorded.

Stormed round to Curry's and came back with a Sony replacement.... much better machine.

Yes, me too. I've had at least 3 'Lite On' DVD burner/players ( supplied with computers - probably on price considerations ) and found them to leave Windows way behind in the instability stakes. They ruined more stuff than I could stand and the last one I had got its tray ripped out from my desktop and had its gizzards mangled with a sturdy screwdriver.

I now use a Benq and a Samsung which give no trouble at all ( scared of the screwdriver I guess ! )

So far I haven't had any problems with my LiteOn DVD/CD burner yet but as far as buying them with a combined harddrive I wouldn't have bought one like that anyway. I bought my harddrive seperate.

Don't buy Philips.

Look at Pioneer, Panasonic.

Sony OK but seem to have lost the edge on reliability.

Do consider with analogue TV ending built in freeview.

Paul...

To help you feel a bit better my Sony... RDR-HX510 is an analogue tuner with a 80 GB HDD. Just one year old and well obsolete.
For the bargain price of....?350.

But I love it......
