Opinion presented as fact.

But if you tell a lie often enough, it starts to attain credibility.

Ah so the ice shelves aren't retreating? Kind of a hard thing to lie about really.

A few thousand years ago Britain was under 40 feet of ice. Climate change is a fact, it has always happened. The latest panic about man made global warming is a way for green fanatics to impose their authoritarian agenda on the rest of us, and for governments to milk us for yet more money. Ponces like windmill Dave Camoron just jump on the bandwagon as a way to gain electoral advantage by appearing to be less "nasty" than the public's perception of the Conservatives.

Lol, a few thousand years ago? So the Romans built Hadrian's wall under 40 feet of ice eh? Did Socrates, Plato & Aristotle teach in Inuit clothing? What of the poor Vikings? Did they invade the north eastern coast by skiing over the North Sea?

I was under the assumption the last time Britain was under so much ice was 18-21 thousand years ago. Looking at core samples around the world it's kinda excepted that the Earth has warmed more in the last 150 years than it did in the previous 5 thousand years. More recently they think it's now at a rate twice as high as they thought. Of course, if you're an oil baron, big business, or someone who wants to run a gas guzzler without feeling guilty then you'll want these experts -from every corner of the globe- to be lying.

I don't think they are.

Are you sure that's exactly what they said?

There are some surveys that suggest they are actually thickening, (as well as high atmospheric sampling not showing any temperature change) but as these don't fall in line with the environ-mentalists "all our theories are fact" position, they are dismissed and shouted down as being in the pay of the oil companies.

I'm prepared to be convinced either way, but the idea that the percieved global warming is a man-made thing *is* just a theory, and no amount of shouting "Earth murderer!" at those who chose to wait for factual proof rather than believe whatever the latest trendy cause is, will change things.

Good post Peter.

I too can be convinced either way. My perception on the matter will go wherever the evidence takes me and at the moment most of the evidence suggests that since the Industrial Revolution global warming has increased at a faster pace than before the Industrial Revolution. 150 years compared to the Earth's age is but a few seconds of our life so it's hard to believe the heating increase to be a coincidence; I am willing to keep an open mind though.

One BIG thing that should make the sceptics take notice is that a greener environment helps humankind whether the Earth is heating up naturally or not. Less pollution makes for a healthier more pleasant life, and then there's the situation of these 'environmentalists' being 100% wrong. If they're wrong we live, and if they're right we also have a better chance of being alive because going green will not kill anybody. Ignoring the experts may turn out to be ok, but only if they're wrong. If they're right and we carry on being ignorant, where does it leave us, the Earth, and most other life?

But losing 56 billion is better than losing the north pole and all the wildlife it supports, not to mention it's affect on weather patterns and ocean currents.

It's a hard one really because most people think oil & coal is better than nuclear.
