Windows Vista

Post by Bob Singleton »

Having recently purchased a new laptop running XP Pro, I am now able to upgrade to Vista for free... but is it worth doing?

Do I move from a tried and tested, relatively stable O/S to a new one from a company renown for launching half built unstable software?

Your comments would be appreciated.

I would concur with Jaques Bob, dont even install IE7 or service pack 2 if you haven,t done already, it,s just part of windows spyware inc, as far as vista goes, it will be free within 2 years, you can make your mind up then.

Windows 98 is rock solid compared to XP?

I have my pc on 24 hours a day -apart from restarts due to windows updating- and XP has crashed about twice in 4-5 years. Win 98 crashed continuously! It was awful!

It came with XP Pro with SP2 pre-installed.

I use Firefox... no idea what version of IE I have. If a website tells me I can only read it in IE, then they lose my business.

The only bit of Microsoft software I use is the O/S... everything else is either open source (e.g. Open Office) or purchased software from a non-Microshite company (mostly seems to be Adobe... Illustrator, Photoshop CS2, Studio 8, etc., )

Agreed. I've found XP to be the best of the lot so far, so I'll keep Vista at arms lengh for a while (though, like a new toy, I'm tempted to try it out).

btw - shakey as it was, even Win 98 was smoother running than Win 2000 on my then pc. Crash, crash, does not recognize new hardware.......a right bloody nightmare.
