Top for me is Sorcerer - William Friedkin's misguided but still fascinating remake of Clouzot's The Wages of Fear.

btw - a while ago I was wondering whatever became of The Stuntman. Lo and behold it's just been put out on a budget DVD. A great lost Hollywood oddity well worth seeing.

That is interesting that you mentioned that film. I watched it over & over years ago on HBO at my g/f's house. It just fascinated me.Not sure why. Seems totally forgotten by most nowadays.

The best Hammer vampire film of the lot, Brides of Dracula. It's out in the USA, but only in a boxed set and only on crappy DVD18.

Forbidden Planet? Coming out in June :)

Hi New Blue Productions (or Blue if you prefer)...

Good to see Forbidden Planet getting a Region 2 release....had this on Region 1 for a few years now...one of the best sci-fi movies of the 1950's alongside This Island Earth, Them! and the Incredible Shrinking Man...

Innocent Blood I picked up for about ?10 a few years ago on Region 1....I think it was at a reduced price on the DVD Empire site...one of John Landis' better recent films, although I must admit I'm biased as it stars Anne Parillaud...

Which "Ghost Story" movie are you referring to? There seems to be quite a few with that name....

As for a movie on Region 1 that's not been released over here yet....how about Daughters of Darkness (1971)? A classic sort-of-vampire movie with the lovely Andrea Rau....I picked it up on Region 0 as an Anchor Bay release as one of the first DVD's I got on import, but I don't think it's ever been released here!

And finally, how about a classic cult movie that's not been released either in the States or over here in the UK....Night of the Comet! I've read on the IMDB that's tied up in all sorts of legal stuff, hence no release...just have to catch it when it gets shown on TV every so often!

Forbidden Planet has been out in Oz for about 2 years, and I was hanging out for it too as I hadn't seen it for decades. Robbie the Robot is just the best movie robot ever. Designed by the same guy who did the ( not so good ) Lost in Space robot ( B9 ) he also designed juke boxes in the fifties and it shows ! Its a corny movie but so much more enjoyable to watch than the modern special effects wanks.

Hi Again Blue,

A great list of classic sci-fi films there...I've got most of these on DVD as well, specifically Them!, The Time Machine, When Worlds Collide & Quatermass and the Pit, and all on Region 1. I've had the others on tape for awhile, but I'll eventually get around to getting them on DVD as well! The other old classic I've got is The Day The Earth Caught Fire....totally brilliant documentary-style British movie from the early 60's. I've also got Plan 9 From Outer Space, but I'm not sure whether the word "classic" applies to it!

Ghost Story (1981) is of course out on Region 1...I guess it's better known over in the States, hence not being released over here (the UK, that is) yet...

Have to agree with you on the Fog! I've not seen the remake, but all the poor reviews would seem to indicate not to! John Carpenter is probably my favourite director, up to and including his more recent films such as Vampires and Ghosts of Mars, even if these films don't reach the heights of Halloween, The Thing and Escape from New York...and indeed the Fog!

Got to mention the two other Hammer classics I've got on DVD...The Devil Rides Out and Plague of the Zombies. Both on Region 1 from Anchor Bay (who really do an excellent job on the vintage DVD front)....

Haven't done a count of my DVD's recently, but I've got quite a few!
