What method/s do forumites use?
I don't mean simply burning to CD or DVD but indexing and updating.
Does anyone use UDF and/or packet writing? Seems to me the ability to add to/update existing collections is the ideal solution.

The problem in my experience with UDF is reliability. CD's & DVD's are now so cheap not worth the risk / hassle.

CD's can be left so that more files can be added with a small loss of space so add items in reasonable size chunks, and make sure you have a copy of the files on the the CD first. I lost one CD adding to it.

I've not used DVD as data / picture storage so can't comment.

I'm not much of a computer buff so I use a stand-alone DVD burner to shovel my stuff onto good quality DVD-Rs to then watch either on the PC or on a stand-alone DVD player.

Early on I lost some valuable & rare material trying to cut corners with cheap DVD-Rs which turned into coasters after just a couple of plays (the "Sky" brand - avoid those fuckers like the plague), so now I only stick to one brand (Panasonic) that I know I can rely on.

I also discovered (the hard way) that labelling DVD-Rs can sometimes affect playback, so now I have Word tables on my PC (backed up onto a data stick) to tell me what's on which DVD-R.

That all probably sounds really primitive and inefficient to some of you hi-tech computer bods, but it works for me.

But what I would ideally like to do is add files to an existing folder on a partially burned CD/DVD.
For instance, if I have burned some "collections" e.g. called Girl A, Set1, Set2... /GirlB Set1, Set2....etc and I then find further sets of Girl1 can I add these to the existing directory and continue the numbering sequence?
Seems a bit frusrating that I can do that in the "paper" world but not on disk.

I know what you mean, mart. But I think this can be a problem with whatever medium you use because there's always a good chance you'll find "new" stuff to throw a spanner in the works and fuck up your carefully planned system.

So with my method I simply name my disks based on various categories. For example my favourite performers will each have their own "dedicated" disks. This enables me to just keep adding a particular girl to a particular disk until that disk is full (either 2 hours or 4 hours worth of 'wrist action' per disk), at which point I finalise that particular disk then simply start another. So I end up with disks called (just for example) "Karen Lancaume 1", "Karen Lancaume 2" etc. (each disc with on-sceen menus telling me which films the scenes originate from, with a corresponding entry in my Word archive file, which if I wish I can simply print out and leave lying around for people to find !shocked!) .

Examples of other categories I use include "Interracial", "70s loops", "Asian" etc. etc. working along the same lines.
