Olympic costs go stupid

So the Olympics will cost us ?9.3 Billion. As government budgets are less reliable than weather forecasts this should be the most expensive thing ever to occur in Western Europe. Or more than enough to sort the NHS and re-equip the Army and Navy with decent kit.

And now Jowell is going to use Lottery Funding. Well not from me she isn't. I have bought my last ticket. I pay Cumbria Council enough Council Tax, I don't want my cash going to regenerate the East End when Livingstone and his communist lackeys haven't bothered.

Was always going to happen. The early estimates were for Joe Public to say, Well it could be a lot worse, and get him onside. The writing was on the wall when one of the big hikes in cost was for a company to ensure that costs didn't, erm, skyrocket. Community halls in Wigtonshire, Scout groups in Truro and community centres in Coventry can now wave goodbye to lottery aid. Jowell will be making sure those funds go to a more "deserving" cause---The Tony Blair Legacy Olympic Redevelopment.

Holyrood and Wembley should have told the British people what to expect with this albino elephant.

Lets just remember this is the LONDON Olympics, so any extra money needed should come from the people of London, not the entire population.

And before anyone jumps on me, just remember that the government refused to bail out the ill fated World Student Games in Sheffield in 1991, saying that gemeral taxation could not be used on an area specific cause, resulting in every resident paying a surcharge on their rates/council tax for 25 years to pay off the debts.

That's just too sensible to happen. Everyone will have to pay I suspect regardless of where in the UK you reside.

London's net tax contribution to the rest of the UK for 2006-2007 has a mid-point estimate of ?13 billion. And as the capital continues to grow at a faster rate than the rest of the economy, it will contribute an ever greater sum above and beyond what is spent upon itself. In light of that, is ?9 billion worth of investment so unreasonable?

Its ?9.3bn today, I'm willing to bet it hits ?15bn by 2012.
Canada's tax payers have recently finished paying for their 1976 Montreal Olympics two years ago. Bear THAT in mind
