The anuual report 2001 by the BBFC has this
'With support from the Department of Health, The Public
Health Laboratories Service, and the Terrence Higgins
Trust, the BBFC also began a process of encouraging the
?adult? industry to carry safer sex messages on all ?R18?
videos. This initiative is at an early stage but the initial
response has been very positive and there are grounds to
hope for significant progress during 2002.'

Do you want rubber knobs and Aids warnings on adult products?
Will this be an advantage or a disadvantage? Do you want to know about all the possible STDs you can get by any type of activity?
Will the warnings bring down the number of AIDS/HIV patients?

Joe,

It's a very good point you're making there. Personally, I think linking pornography with safe sex products is a good idea. Not only does it signify that the UK porn industry is being seriously recognised as a medium for these messages, but there are definitely people watching r18 videos that are either under-age or non-educated on STD's.

Although Porn and STD's should not be directly linked, they still deal with the central issue of sex.

I guess if we are expected to pay for these adverts via the film price, then it will raise many objections I'm sure.

STD's remain a problem in this country due to lack of serious education and peoples ignorance. If it manages to get some people thinking a bit more serious about them, then it has to be a good thing. (I'm obviously not referring to r18 videos being the only solution, just answering the posted question).
