Brit film titles

Is it just me that finds British film titles a little uninspiring? It seems that the first video is called something utterly banal and uninformative as "Raunchy Rompers" and then the next one is called "Raunchy Rompers 2" and so on. After a while you lose interest because you can never remember which one in the series you've already seen. If you log onto most sites selling Brit vids, you'll see what I mean. Surely a little bit of thought can go a long way into making a film memorable? I know the Americans are equally guilty but some of their efforts like Edward Penishands, Riding Miss Daisy and Titty Slickers, although less than original, did stick in the mind.

Making a porn film memorable is not about the titling,
but about getting the right format and hiring the right
talent. There aren't a huge number of imaginatively
titled films out there, British or otherwise.

The examples quoted by Boomer are, of course, Hollywood
cash-ins. Whilst funny, they often mis-represent the
product they are peddling.

My criteria for a good title is, when combined with
the cover art - it should summarize the content of the
movie. For that reason, I think the Brit-flick
'Lubed' is an effective example of a title
(well done OEJ).

I am alright with numbering of film titles as long as
the sequels follow the same general lines, so "Fuck
Truck episodes 5 & 6" is OK by me. 'Fuck Truck' isn't
particularly accurate titling, but then 'Fuck Camper Van'
doesn't have quite the same ring to it ;-)

While I agree that "Raunchy Rompers" is like er, naff city, and says a lot about the calibre of the folks putting these things together, I disagree about having a volume 1, 2, 3, etc. Because, if it's a series - and you want it to be perceived as a series - you've got to call each episode "Raunchy Rompers" and differentiate them by labelling each one with a consecutive number.

The imaginative American titles you mention are porno parodies of mainstream movies and quite often have little in common with the original movie apart from the title that inspired them.

But the Americans aren?t the only ones with such creative vision. Haven?t you heard of such cushty British classics as "Carrie Potter & The Philosopher's Bone" "Muffy The Vampire Slayer" "The Claire Bitch Project" "Nobbing Neighbours" and the like? If not I suggest you submit a request for HCC's splendidly imaginative video catalogue to the above e-mail address post haste!
