Cosmic!! Really needed doing didnt it? Because the Beatles and George Martin made such a mess of it the first time around. Unlike the master pieces some of the bands involved have offered us!! Lets hope they do the whole back catalouge,because its all right and every thing,but im sure Travis could do it alot better.

It's been done before ... didn't the NME do 'Sgt Pepper Knew My Father' for the 25th anniversary ? Can someone explain the fuss about Pepper .. aren't there at least 3 or 4 Beatles albums that wipe the floor with it ?

Rubber Soul, Revolver, The White Album and Abbey Road are better albums, but Sergeant Pepper caught a moment in time. Apart from Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and A Day In The Life, there's not much to get excited about----and it's also a very short album, not much over half an hour in length.

Do you really think it caught a moment in time, or do you think it's more a case that we've had a good 20 years of being told that that's the case ? You wouldn't get the same kind of consensus about an album from the 70s or 80s so why should 'Sgt Pepper' be so unanimous for the 60s ? I'm not down on the Beatles btw .. they're a great band .. I just don't like to see things get boiled down.

I think it was simply that----it caught a mood, and since then has lived on its reputation.

When I was younger, I thought Revolver was the best Beatles album; then I opted for Abbey Road. These days it's the double white. In spite of having some very ordinary stuff (Obladi-oblada is awful), it does have Lennon at the height of his song-writing powers (Dear Prudence, Julia, I'm So Tired, Revolution to name but a few).

I've always thought that 'Magical mystery tour', was a far superior album.

Yes, and some of the lesser known tracks like 'Everybody's Got Something To Hide ...' have passages of sheer brilliance.
