Good to see Scotland's number one tax exile making a PPB for the SNP. Connery hasn't lived in the UK, never mind Scotland for a good 30 years. So won't have paid a penny tax, voted or bought a Scotch Pie yet is right up Alex Salmond's back passage. Maybe SNP will make him King Tax Exile!

I've been the same thing for years. Doesn't want to be British - only Scottish. He was happy though to make his name playing a British secret agent - in England, happy to accept a British knighthood. He's also happy to live abroad with all the benefits of being British

He owns a few companies in Scotland, so pays company taxes.

I'm with you in that he's a bit of a hypocrite.
However, I'm for an independant Scotland.
I'm sick of England living off of our oil reserves, yet we see little benefit and don't receive thepreferential treatment that daaaarn sarf seems to get.
I love my country, and have a lot of great English mates- but my identity is Scottish.
The Saltire. Not a big red bus, a cup of tea or a stiff upper lip.
Or that family of prize eejits, with halfwit silverspoon useless genes, who masquerade as the Monarchy.
Then the outdated 'class' system- which a few of our forumites still have the audacity to play upon and arrogantly dismiss 'chav culture' as if they are a cut above when, in reality, if THEY were brought up in similar circumstances, they would be no different themselves.
I'm a proud Scot in full feather-ruffling mode. Yes, Connery can be a bit of a dick in reply to thread title.

Trouble is fudgeflaps the oil has almost dried up in the North Sea.
We could always become like Switzerland with their banking laws, but I hate the Scottish banks with a passion, they would scew us even more.

Connery is a hypocrite of the first order.
As for the SNP, they've spent decades saying how bad Scotland is and how great it could be under them. Now, they have the cheek of accusing their opponents of "talking Scotland down." And in an area of society where we are surrounded by self-satisfied tossers (Blair, Cameron et al), Alex Salmond still stands out as the king of smugness. And if you think there is a cult of Blair, with all his underlings creeping to him, that is nothing to the utter arslikhan wee Eck demands.
No matter what people in England think, or what people in Scotland think, the partnership known as the union has provided benefits for both. We could probably go it alone, whatever happens with the oil (and I think it is running out faster than the Snips would have us believe), but the sum of the parts would be less than the whole.
I'm a patriot and love my country, but not so blindly that I can ignore its faults----and that goes for the UK as much as it does for Scotland. Sadly, it looks like enough people have been conned by the SNP to allow the divorce proceedings to get started. If I knew what they stood for---apart from claiming power, which is all they are interested in---I might consider voting for them. But King Alex the First is not a good enough reason.

I have never and never will support SNP, but I will be first in the queue the day I can apply for my Scottish passport.
