Gold fish

Hey

OK deadly serious here. Does any one know any thing about Gold fish?

Had my two fan tails for nearly three years now and they both have been no bother about from a mild case of fin rot which seems to be clearing up now.

But over the past few weeks one of them has developed a really strange habit. After eating she swims upside down for several hours, practically motionless. Just wizzing round the tank in the jet stream of the pump.

If you go over to the tank to watch her she will and can swim normally and most of the time is perfectly healthy and normal.

I have tried switching there food from flakes to dried blood worm but this seems to have made no difference. I am asking here because my local aquatics centre has fleeced me a couple of times with lotions and potions. So just wondered if any of you folks had any ideas.

Thankyou in advance from me and....erm Doren

Hi BB,

Have looked on google and there are a number of sites/articles about gold fish care. You could also look on the bbc.co.uk/pets website.
Don't have any gold fish knowledge myself to share though-sorry!

Thankyou again Naomi. Found a wonderfull article on the BBC site. It has advised me to keep her in shallow water for a couple of weeks and has given me a few other pointers as well. Just transfered her and so far she is up right!! So fingers crossed!!

Thankyou and all the best

BB and Doren

Hi BB,

Glad you found some useful advice on the websites.
Had a thought as you said that you're being ripped off by the aquatics shop re lotions and potions they've encouraged you to get, but which haven't worked-have you thought of getting pet insurance? Tescos and probably other set ups do cheap pet insurance. You could look on those price comparison websites for best insurance buys or possibly the online which guide to insurance etc.

Gotta be honest....never really thought about that. By a really strange coincidence I have got to call Tesco's tomorrow about my home insurance. I will enquire about there pet insurance too. I know its probably quiet sad,but I have become very attached to the little blighters over the last few years.

Thankyou for all your help...did wonder if I would get laughed off the forum for getting in a tizzy over a goldfish. Any time I can help you Naomi I will try me darndest!!

All the best

BB

Thanks BB.
I always think that when people care about their pets/animals/nature etc it generally says something very positive about their outlook. I don't see why anybody should laugh you off the forum for requesting advice about your gold fish.

From my own experience (with my fish not me lol.) it sounds as if there may be a problem with the fishes swim bladder.
