OK if David Beckham is in line for a knighthood for acheiving little more than convincing me to buy a Gillette razor. I propose a campaign to get Jimmy Greaves knighted!!



Read the stats. This man acheived more at club and international levels than Beckham. And he did at least get to see a world cup final. Oh and lets not forget....he seems one bloody nice bloke.

You may be interested to know that I knew Greavsie slightly. I first met him when a girlfriend invited me to a football match which turned out to be the cup final where Spurs beat Chelsea, her dad was a director of Spurs and I watched it from the Directors Box. Suffice it to say a jolly time was had by all following the match. Not being a footy fan I haven't been to a match since.
I met up with him many years later when he was working at Central TV alongside another football hero Billy Wright.
My impression was that he was a genuinely nice chap.

These knighthoods............they're a funny old game.

Good to see you (so to speak) chap!! Once again my mind boggles at the life you have lead. so you worked at Central,eh? Could drill you all night for gossip on some of the presenters there lol

im really chuffed to hear he is the all round nice bloke he comes across as being. Did you ever get to meet "The Saint"? Again he seems to be a very decent chap.

I too always thought he came across as a genuine bloke when
he used to be on TV. Fair play to him for getting off the booze and
finding a new career. He really does seem to have done well to come out
his addiction with a positive attitude and really does seem to relish the
fact he could still achieve something in his life without alcohol

I saw Greaves score against Leicester in Ocotober, 1968. I was on my dad's shoulders. It's my earliest football memory because the goal was incredible and my dad dropped me in the celebration!

Agreed, a lovely bloke who never tires of talking about the game, but not in a pub bore manner.
