Why gonzo, where does the name derive from? Is it anything to do with the Muppets? I'll fetch my coat

It's a lot older than the Muppets.
'Bizarre, crazy or absurd, especially used of journalism of a subjective eccentric nature'.
Possibly from Italian 'gonzo', a simpleton, or Spanish 'gonso', goose.
When you get your coat, go out and buy a dictionary !!

Isn't it something to do with Hunter S Thompson?

What is that?

Thankyou, I said you were touchy because you had a go at me not knowing origins of gonzo

This the definitive answer as far as I know. Hunter S. Thompson developed what he called 'gonzo' journalism when he was a sports reporter. Sometimes when a game was getting a bit boring with nothing really to write about, he'd cause something to happen, like tripping up the popcorn girl or whatever. He could then report on the incident and the ensuing activity that he had caused to happen. As far as porn goes, it translates thus: The director i.e. me, is responsible for causing what you see on screen to happen in an interactive way, in other words the person doing the filming is actually causing what is happening in front of the lens to occur. Unfortunately some guys out there think it just means amateur video. So now you know. It doesn't mean going down Dixons, buying a camera, setting it up in the bedroom on a tripod, and shagging the missus by the light of a 40w bedside lamp. Always do your research I say. Hope that's cleared that one up.

On your films the idea is you have just picked the girls up off the street, which of course is not so (most girls don't walk about in sussies and mini skirts, mores the pity). But is that Gonzo anymore than say a guy with a camera just saying does this position now or turn around this way?
