25th anniverary of its greatest achievement---making itself look tough and Churchillian after a spat in the south Atlantic. If only simple Jim Callaghan had thought of doing that five years earlier, he could have been returned to power in spite of the winter of discontent. But no, he had to send warships to the area to deter any Argentinian thoughts of taking the Falklands.
I think when it does go, I'm going to put a stake through where its heart should be----just to be on the safe side.

Join the back of the pissing queue, Keith. It's like the delicatessan counter at Sainsbury's. Take a number and wait your turn.
I've got ticket 143,567----but I started queuing years ago.

Ok enough already, yes she was Grim, yes she decimated the manufacturing industry, yes she was responsible for the me me me generation, but to wish someone should just fuck off and die is a pretty juvenille statement, ie -not nice, ie -a cunt of a thing to say, ie- lynch mob mentatilty.
I personally think she is to blame for a lot of todays society's evils, but she is no longer in power, thats good enough for me.
Mind- she was a cunt.

"If only simple Jim Callaghan had thought of doing that five years earlier, he could have been returned to power in spite of the winter of discontent. But no, he had to send warships to the area to deter any Argentinian thoughts of taking the Falklands."
Not this old canard again.
The Callaghan government did send a submarine to the South Atlantic. However, they never told the Argentines, as the Foreign Office thought it would be "provocative". If you are wondering what is the point of having a deterrent that the other side does not know about, you are asking the right question.
As to Hong Kong, only the New Territories were held on a 99 years lease, the cities of Victoria and Kowloon were British territory for good. They were voluntarily handed over in 1997 along with the New Territories.
Hong Kong probably had to go back to China in some manner, but the deal cut with the Chinese was not very good, again on the advice of the same Foreign Office gaylords.
Bottom line: any Prime Minister who listens to the Foreign Office will get reamed. The FO seems to have an institutional mindset that they have to be nice to foreigners, and foreigners will be nice back, and the experience of all of recorded history cannot shake them from that view.
