YA FUCKING HOO!!!

The Mail On Sunday has an article June 23 2002 entitled 'Pornography UK How labours's broken pledge has made Britain a lucrative haven for the hardcore sex industry'
The last paragraph ...
'While the internet has always been beyond the control of the Government, the high street sex shops and hardcore videos are not. John Beyer, of MediaWatch UK, formerly the National Viewers' and Listeners Association, said: "The Government has set its face against the idea of upholding the Obscene Publications Act. It has never been sufficiently conscientious in this area. Today the pornographers know what they can get away with, they've escaped the reach of the law and their material is becoming stronger and stronger. They say their supply is meeting a demand. The events of two years ago gave a them the green light to pour filth into this country and they have forced the pace. Frankly, the pornographers are winning."'

Others talked about - Anna Kieran (Hot Rod Productions), Berth Milton ('Private Gladiator' the most expensive porn film???), Prime Time Promotions(Britains Biggest private porn distributor???), ?27,700 year westminister licensed sexshop fee???.

They are wrong. The the BBFC started allowing penetration during the last Tory government. And when Labour got in Home Sec. Jackboots Straw was so disgusted about hardcore getting passed he came down on it like a ton of bricks. It was the Courts that subsequently legalised hardcore much to Jacks disappointment.

Another shitty attempt by the Daily Mail to blame Labour for everything. They will be saying Herr Fuhrer Blair started the foot and mouth outbreak next. Victorian minded arseholes that they are.

A typically Victorian, middle class, middle England (or suposedly so) outburst from the paper that does this type of thing best. These people should get out more (possibly for the first time?) and experience the real world, warts and all. An all expences paid trip to Holland, perhaps?.....then again, perhaps not, as they would be incapable of opening their tiny bigotted minds far enough to start enjoying the experience of spending time in an adult, liberal society!

I'll step down from this soapbox, now.

Except, of course, they'll then claim that this country will be flooded by a tide of pornographic filth if we join the Euro!!

I can see the headline now - "Save The ? - And Keep Porn Out Of Britain!"

Don't let 'em wind you up. They're just playing up to their image, giving punters more of what they expect like a - music hall comedian and his catchphrase. They're probably not all as barking mad as their public persona suggests. I suspect they're a shrewd bunch at The Mail and while you (the public) keep buying their rag in your millions they ain't gonna change a successful formula. Same goes for the appalling New of the World. Both these papers pander to a particularly British mean minded spitefulness, while justifying themselves on moral grounds. Which is even more repugnant. It would be funny, except that they have so many readers that Governments are nervous about upsetting them, so sometimes go along with their crazy repressive demands, which in any case are simply about whipping up ?the mob? and selling more papers

100% true, but they don't wind me up (honest!) Dibble, but what does is the fact that many thousands of people (the so-called moral majority) will read, and more dangerously, BELIEVE, this claptrap (OK, some of it is true, taking into account the whole thrust of this article, it may just as well untruths)...and then attempt, and more importantely, succeed in applying their blinkered view on life to the rest of society : "Ban this menace" and all that. It is a regretable peculiarity of the British, or more accurately the English, establishment that anything which the population at large actually has the audacity to enjoy doing/watching/reading must automatically be severely restricted or, better still, prevented from being available at all. Paranoid, me? No, just a realist. I could go on, but you'll be revieved to read that I won't, but you get the picture, I'm sure?

i'm not sure why you single out the english, in this context. the scottish and the welsh are just as imbued with spoilsport puritanism, if not more so.

surely the wider point to be drawn from this daily mail article, is that the forces of repression are looking less like the soldiers for a moral rearmament they perceive themselves to be and increasingly like a rag tag bunch of king canute impersonators, with a severe case of trench foot.

the fact is, they've lost not just the battle but the war - technology has seen to that, not liberalism. apart from a few skirmishes still to be settled, they're passing into the history books faster than the sinclair c5 (okay, not the best metaphor as it barely topped 15mph).

one thing's for sure - you won't be seeing anything along the same lines in the daily express (and considering who the owner of that rag makes political donations to, we're unlikely to see it being addressed in a future labour manifesto, either).
