anyone clued up on tv,s got a samsung 40in with intergrated freeview and a samsung dvd recorder,if i put freeview on tv and put av1 on dvd and record its all good but if i then turn tv to standby but leave it recording it just records blank screen or is it because the freeview tuner is built in the telly has to be left turned on to record

I've just bought a new Sony HD Flat-screen TV with integrated Freeview and have had the same problem.

I think it's because I need to leave the TV on - but I haven't had time to check this out yet.

I notice one of the options the TV allows is that I can have the TV on, with the picture turned-off and the volume muted.

I'm thinking if I do this I might be able to record off the integrated Freeview, with the TV to all intents and purposes turned-off.

Again I?ve not had time to check this out yet.

If your Samsung allows this and you try it can you let me know if it works.

Seems to me the newer the technology, the more unnecessarily complicated it is to use.

thanx for that ive looked in the on screen menu and i dont seem to have that option ive got the blue back dnie demo etc etc but no option for tv picture off but thanx for advice

youd think when yu leave it in standby it would keep on recording really wouldnt you but it wont have it

The tv has to be left on, but you should have a feature to use timer recordings in your manual somewhere. What this should do is switch the tv on at the set time but not the screen, so it seems to stay in standby mode, just switches on the freeview.

You'd be better off buying a stand alone freeview box with timer in my opinion and switch off your telly when you're done with it, don't put it on standby.

I don't say that because of all the environmental guff, but you'll save a lot of money on electricity if you switch off the telly (if it will let you) instead of doing the standby thing. A tv on standby uses almost as much electricity as keeping it on.

ok appreciate that ned ill give it a go ive got timer menu in dvd recorder menu wot just set up a timer with channel to record as av1at woteva time put tv in standby and see if it records

do you mean go int the tv menu ned and schedule a programme in future from yhe program guide and then set the dvd to record stating at the same time as the tv programme i scheduled also in the tv menu so hopefully at say 8pm for example the tv will fire the intergrated box up on woteva channel i scheduled it for and then the dvd will record from av 1 at same time???

Yeah. You should have a timer function in your tv that activates the freeview tuner when you need to record.

If that doesn't work then a seperate box would be the way to go, unless you can afford a video or dvd recorder with built in freeview as well.

Technology. Who needs it.

ive got a scheduled programme function in the dtv menu wot puts a little clock next to a programme in the future if you select one and if your watching telly it turns it over to the programme youve selected earlier so hopefully if i do the same thing then turn telly off and set up a timed recording that function should fire the tuner without turning the screen on
