Why do people rave about this film? I don't actually think it's that good a film. It's derivative and steals from every film from the seventies. So why do people love it?
Tarantino isn't that good a director anyway and certainly his choice of how to do the movie was done by Kurasowa in Rashomon, a far superior film, some 50 years previously.
So what is it about Tarantino / Pulp Fiction that people rave about? I don't see it.

Story telling?
Resovoir Dogs = The Taking of Pelham 123
Kill Bill = Lady Snowblood
Pulp Fiction = Any Sonny Chibba film from the '70's
Still not convinced.

People love it because its derivative and steals from films in the 70's. I like QT's movies.

Mind you I'm a sucker for the 70's anyway.

Pulp Fiction is good entertainment, but Jackie Brown is his best film, easy. Sadly it didn't connect with the Pulp Fiction audience to the degree expected. King Nerd wasn't cool anymore, thus he emerged with Kill Bill 1&2, both tailored to hit the fanboy contingent square on. Rather boring to anyone else though, and even fanboys couldn't rescue him from the amusing Grindhouse fiasco.
Up a bit of a creek at the moment, but age and his not inconsiderable talent may pay off again. Only a fool would write him off.
